The Devonport Strikers players and coaches have their mind set on this weekend’s Lakoseljac Cup semi-final clash with University, but a search is on in the background to find a replacement for Guillermo Lazcano.
Lazcano has been a star of the Strikers since coming on board for the 2018 season and was a crucial member of the side’s defence through the FFA Cup and title winning campaign last year and through the early part of this season, but won’t return after being denied a visa.
Strikers coach Rick Coghlan said it was going to be hard to replace Lazcano on and off the field, but they were on the lookout to fill the gap.
“Losing Guillermo was huge for the club because he was a huge part of the community up here and it will be tough to replace him,” Coghlan said.
“There is plenty of time to bring new recruits in, I will definitely like to bring someone in of Guillermo’s quality and that is not always an easy thing to do midway through a season.”
