The Devonport Strikers Academy is the perfect opportunity for young football players to develop their skills and learn the game of football. The Devonport Strikers Academy is coordinated by Devonport Strikers Junior Coordinator Sam Crawford and is coached by several members of the Devonport Strikers Playing Group. With different programs for the Discovery Phase (Age 5-8) and the Skill Acquisition Phase (Age 9-12) & Game Training Phase (Age 13-16), the Strikers Academy caters for a wide range of football players.

Focus
Striking the Ball
This includes all forms of striking the ball such as short & long passing, shooting and crossing
First Touch
Controlling the ball with all allowed body parts
1 v 1
All moves, feints and accelerations to get past and away from an opponent
Running with the Ball
At speed or dribbling in tight areas, this includes techniques for protecting the ball and changing direction
What is the discovery phase?
The discovery phase is one of the 4 building blocks within the FFA’s football curriculum.
Your child will be in this phase from ages 5 to 8. The discovery phase places places a high emphasis on helping young players enjoy the game of football, while being able to discover their own skills.
Coaches within the discovery phase do not concentrate on ‘coaching’, but instead concentrate on organising fun football exercises. This allows players to discover their limitations through trial & error. Emphasis is also placed on natural development – learning football by playing football
What is the skill aquisition phase?
The skill acquisition phase (SAP) is one of the 4 building blocks within the FFA’s football curriculum.
Your child will be in this phase from ages 9 to 12. At this stage young people are presented with a huge window of opportunity. ‘The Golden age of motor Development.
SAP is designed to perfect and accelerate the skill development of players between the critical ages of 9 to 12. This is the age group universally acknowledged to be the optimal mental and physical phase in which children are able to learn motor skills.
SAP’s aim to provide the necessary technical ‘tools’ to be able to play the game at the highest possible level with a focus on functional game skills, with an immediate skills transfer into positioning and small-sided games being an absolute requirement.
It is based on world’s best practice and has been developed by internationally acclaimed Technical Coaches and the FFA Technical Department.
